Before you became a Christian, you may have prayed before meals, on holidays, or perhaps during times of crisis.  As a believer, however, prayer should become second nature.  Prayer is no longer an option but should become part of all you do (Acts 10:2).  When we fail to pray, we miss out on one of the greatest blessings of the Christian life-fellowship with God himself, our power source for living!!!

The disciples observed the profound effect prayer had in Jesus' life and ministry.  They witnessed how Jesus would often go off by Himself to spend time in prayer with His heavenly Father.  They saw the power, peace, and tranquillity that emanated from His life, giving Him the ability to stay calm in troubled circumstances.  Jesus' prayer life so impressed these men that they asked Him to teach them to pray (Luke 11:1-13).  Certainly if the perfect son of God often took time to pray during His life here on earth, how much more do we, mere men & women, need to pray?  So please take the time out o f your busy life and pray for the prayer request located below and also in your own life!!!

Temptation & Walking with God

 What Jesus Didn't Do
Read: Hebrews 4:14-16
{Jesus}, when He was reviled, did not revile in return. -1 Peter 2:23

I once heard a skeptic say that if Jesus really was the Son of God, His sufferings must have been easier to bear.  This comment caused me to re-examine the Gospels.  While reviewing the incredible things Jesus did and said to accomplish our great salvation, I also noted a number of things Jesus didn't do that are equally vital to our salvation:
Jesus didn't demand His own will (Matthew 26:39).  He didn't call down legions of angels to rescue Him(v. 53).  He didn't defend Himself or threaten His accusers (27:12-14).  He didn't save Himself (Mark 15:31).  He didn't come down from the cross (v.32).  He didn't stop loving and saving sinners (Luke 23:43).

The fact that Jesus could have done these things intensified His agony and increased the temptation to use His power for His own advantage.  But He didn't.  Instead, He used His power for our benefit!  This is described in Hebrews 4:15-16.  Jesus suffered temptation the same as we do- except that He didn't sin.  So He can "sympathize with our weaknesses"(v.15).  Therefore, we can approach His throne of grace boldly and obtain His "help in time of need"(v.16).

Whatever your need is today, Jesus wants you to come and make full use of this privilege. -JEY

Though Christ was tempted in all ways,
He did not sin in word of deed;
So now we can approach His throne
For grace to help in time of need. -Sper

EVERY TEMPTATION IS AN OCCASION TO TRUST GOD.
 Living on Alert
Read: Matthew 24:30-44
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come... So you also must be ready , because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you don not expect him" (Matthew 23:42, 44)

Through the years numbers of people have attempted to set a date when Christ will return.  Though they were sincere, their efforts have all been to no avail.  Christ wants us to focus instead on living on alert until He comes.

To help us do this, He told a story of a noble man who left on a journey and wanted his servants to go on with the business of living while he was away (Luke 19:11-24).  From this we learn that we are to be diligent in our thinking, planning, working investing in His kingdom, and serving until our Lord returns.

We also need to live godly lives as we wait for His return.  Paul's instructions to Titus are for us as well.  We are to follow a life of integrity, purity, and spiritual vitality (Titus 2:11-14).

We need to be prepared to meet Jesus face to face at any moment.  We are to be on guard, aware of dangers that threaten our walk with God, and humbly acknowledge our dependence on Him for strength to live on alert.

INSIGHT:  Have we become so comfortable in our earthly life that we are failing to look for Jesus' coming again?
